What's New in SSC CHSL 2026

2026 Changes
1

Sectional Timing Introduced in Tier 1

Each of the 4 subjects now gets a fixed 15-minute lock instead of one shared 60-minute composite timer. Once a section's time is up, you cannot revisit it or borrow time from another section.

2

Vacancies Down from Last Year

2,536 vacancies this cycle versus 3,131 in SSC CHSL 2025 — about 19% lower.

3

Answer Key Challenge Fee Reduced

Challenging a Tier 1 answer key now costs ₹50 per question, down from ₹100 previously.

4

Live Photograph Mandatory

Pre-saved photographs are rejected outright — candidates must capture a live photo during the application via webcam or smartphone.

5

OTR Must Be Done on the Current Portal

Old One-Time Registration IDs from the previous SSC website (ssc.nic.in) do not carry over. Every candidate registers fresh on ssc.gov.in.

6

Two Correction Attempts Allowed

Candidates can correct their form twice during the 14–16 October window — ₹200 for the first correction, ₹500 for the second.

SSC CHSL 2026 Vacancy

A total of 2,536 tentative vacancies have been announced for LDC/JSA, DEO and DEO Grade 'A' posts — about 19% lower than the 3,131 vacancies in the 2025 cycle. SSC publishes post- and category-wise breakdowns separately, and the figure is typically revised before the final result.

Why Prepare with PrepGrind

Sectional timing is the single biggest format change this cycle — a mock that doesn't lock each subject to 15 minutes will teach you the wrong habits. PrepGrind's SSC CHSL Tier 1 mocks and sectional tests replicate the exact 2026 timing format, plus a typing-speed practice tool for the Tier 2 skill test.
