NMAT 2026: Exam Date, Syllabus, Pattern & Free Mock Tests

NMAT by GMAC is a management entrance test administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council, the same body that owns the GMAT. It is the primary admission route to NMIMS Mumbai and its other campuses, and is accepted by a number of other business schools in India and internationally.

The format is unusual in several respects. There is no negative marking at all, candidates choose the order in which they attempt the three sections, and the test is delivered across a scheduling window of roughly 75 days during which a candidate may take it up to three times, with the best score considered.

NMAT is popular because it has no negative marking whatsoever and permits up to three attempts within one cycle, which together make it the lowest-risk major MBA entrance in India.

The absence of negative marking fundamentally changes strategy — every question should be attempted, because a guess costs nothing. Combined with three permitted attempts and a self-chosen section order, the format removes most of the variance that makes single-sitting entrances stressful.

The scheduling window is also genuinely flexible. Candidates book their own slot across roughly 75 days, which allows NMAT to be fitted around CAT preparation rather than competing with it for a fixed date.

To appear for NMAT 2026 a candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, with no age limit and no restriction on the number of cycles, though attempts within a single cycle are capped at three.

Educational Qualification

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. Institutes accepting the NMAT score, including NMIMS, set their own minimum percentage requirements — typically 50 per cent in graduation.

Age Limit

There is no age limit for NMAT. NMAT has no age limit. Within a single cycle a candidate may take the test up to three times including retakes, with the best score considered.

Nationality

• Indian nationals are eligible.
• International candidates may appear, as NMAT is also accepted by select institutions outside India.

NMAT is a two-hour computer-based test of 108 questions across three sections — Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning — each individually timed, with no negative marking and the section order chosen by the candidate.
