What is MAH CET MBA?
MAH CET MBA is the state-level entrance test conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell of the Government of Maharashtra for admission to MBA and MMS programmes across the state. It is the primary route to Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, PUMBA and the wider Maharashtra institution network.
Two structural features distinguish it. There is no negative marking on any question, which fundamentally changes attempt strategy, and Logical Reasoning carries 75 of the 200 marks — by far the heaviest single-section weighting of any Indian MBA entrance. Admission runs through Centralised Admission Process counselling rather than institute-by-institute application.
Full Form of MAH CET MBA
MAH CET MBA stands for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for MBA and MMS programmes. It is also written as MAH MBA CET, and both refer to the same examination conducted by the State CET Cell.
Why MAH CET MBA is Popular Among Aspirants
MAH CET MBA is sought after because it is the route to JBIMS, whose Mumbai location and placement record make it one of the strongest returns on investment in Indian management education at state fee levels.
JBIMS is the standout draw. Located in Mumbai’s financial district with a long-established recruiter base in finance and consulting, it delivers placement outcomes comparable to far more expensive private programmes while charging state-regulated fees.
The absence of negative marking also makes the test structurally friendlier than CAT. Combined with a heavy Logical Reasoning weighting that rewards consistent practice rather than deep quantitative ability, it suits a different candidate profile.
- Primary route to JBIMS Mumbai and SIMSREE
- No negative marking on any question
- State-regulated fees far below comparable private programmes
- Logical Reasoning weighting rewards practice over quantitative depth

MAH CET MBA 2027 Exam Pattern
MAH CET MBA is a 150-minute computer-based test of 200 questions carrying 200 marks with no negative marking whatsoever, in which Logical Reasoning alone accounts for 75 marks — the heaviest single-section weighting in any Indian MBA entrance.
Computer Based Test
The paper has 200 questions worth 200 marks in 150 minutes across four sections with composite timing, awarding one mark per correct answer with no penalty for a wrong one.
- Mode
- Online (Objective, Multiple Choice)

How to Prepare for MAH CET MBA 2027
The decisive MAH CET strategy is to attempt every single question, because there is no negative marking at all, and to concentrate preparation on reasoning, which accounts for a full half of the paper.
Attempt all 200 questions
There is no negative marking whatsoever. A blank and a wrong answer score identically, so leaving anything unanswered is strictly worse than guessing. Plan to finish the paper.
Make Logical Reasoning your priority
Seventy-five marks from Logical Reasoning and 25 from Abstract Reasoning — half the paper. No other Indian MBA entrance weights reasoning this heavily, and it improves reliably with daily practice volume.
Practise Abstract Reasoning specifically
Figure series, paper folding, mirror images and embedded figures form a distinct 25-mark section that CAT does not test at all. It is fully learnable and frequently neglected.
Build speed for 45 seconds per question
Two hundred questions in 150 minutes is a fast paper despite the length. Because you should attempt everything, pace matters more than selectivity — practise full papers under strict timing.
Register for CAP separately
Qualifying MAH CET admits you nowhere. CAP counselling has its own registration, document verification and deadline. Candidates lose seats every year by treating the result as the end of the process.
Sort out domicile and category documents early
Maharashtra domicile and category claims are verified during CAP and materially affect allotment. Assemble certificates well before counselling rather than during it.
