RRB NTPC is a centralised recruitment examination conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards under the Ministry of Railways to fill Non-Technical Popular Categories posts across Indian Railways. These are the customer-facing and administrative roles of the railway network — Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist and similar posts.

The recruitment runs in two streams. Undergraduate posts require a Class 12 pass, while Graduate posts require a bachelor’s degree, and the two carry different vacancies, age limits and pay levels. Selection runs through two computer-based tests followed by a post-specific skill test — either a Typing Skill Test or a Computer Based Aptitude Test — and document verification.

RRB NTPC Undergraduate posts require a Class 12 pass with an age limit of 18 to 33 years, while Graduate posts require a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with an age limit of 18 to 36 years, both reckoned as on the date specified in the notification.

Educational Qualification

For Undergraduate posts: passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board. For Graduate posts: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university.

• Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist additionally require typing proficiency in English or Hindi on a computer.
• Candidates must possess the qualification as on the closing date of the application, not the exam date.
• A graduate may apply for Undergraduate-level posts, but a 12th-pass candidate cannot apply for Graduate-level posts.

Age Limit

The age limit for RRB NTPC is 18 to 36 years. The upper age limit is 33 years for Undergraduate posts and 36 years for Graduate posts. The Railways have revised these limits between cycles, so confirm the exact range in the current employment notice.

Nationality

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

RRB NTPC is conducted in two computer-based stages — CBT 1 has 100 questions worth 100 marks in 90 minutes and is only a screening test, while CBT 2 has 120 questions worth 120 marks in 90 minutes and determines the merit. Both deduct one-third of a mark for each wrong answer.

RRB NTPC posts range from Pay Level 2 to Pay Level 6 under the Seventh Pay Commission, with basic pay from ₹19,900 for Junior Clerk cum Typist to ₹35,400 for Station Master and Goods Train Manager, giving in-hand salaries of roughly ₹28,000 to ₹48,000 depending on post and city.
