MAT 2026: Exam Dates, Syllabus, Pattern & Free Mock Tests

MAT is a national-level management aptitude test conducted by the All India Management Association. Unlike CAT or XAT, which run once a year, MAT is held four times annually — typically in February, May, September and December — and each cycle may offer multiple delivery modes and test dates.

Scores are accepted by more than six hundred management institutions across India. The paper has five sections, but a structural detail decides strategy: the Indian and Global Environment section is excluded when calculating the composite score that most institutes use for shortlisting.

MAT is popular because it runs four times a year across three delivery modes, which means a candidate is never more than a few months from the next opportunity — flexibility no other Indian management entrance offers.

The four-cycle structure removes the all-or-nothing pressure of a single annual sitting. A candidate who underperforms in February can sit again in May, and institutes generally accept the most recent or best score depending on their admission calendar.

The multiple delivery modes add further flexibility. Internet Based Testing allows candidates to sit from home, while Computer Based and Paper Based options are available at centres, so geography and connectivity are rarely barriers.

To appear for MAT 2026 a candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with no age limit, no minimum percentage specified by AIMA, and no restriction on the number of attempts.

Educational Qualification

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. Candidates in the final year of a bachelor’s degree may also appear, subject to producing proof of completion at the time of admission.

• AIMA does not specify a minimum percentage for appearing in MAT.
• Institutes accepting the MAT score set their own minimum percentage requirements, commonly 50 per cent.
• A candidate may appear in more than one MAT cycle in the same year, and institutes generally consider the best or most recent score depending on their calendar.

Age Limit

There is no age limit for MAT. MAT has no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts. Candidates may appear in every cycle if they wish.

Nationality

• Indian nationals are eligible.
• Foreign national and NRI candidates may appear as specified in the AIMA bulletin.

MAT is a 150-minute test of 200 questions across five sections of 40 questions each, awarding one mark per correct answer with 0.25 deducted for a wrong one — and critically, the Indian and Global Environment section is excluded from the composite score most institutes use.

MAT confers no salary — it is an admission test. The outcome is a place at one of the six hundred-plus institutions accepting MAT scores, where placement outcomes vary very widely and depend far more on the institute than on the test.
