How to Prepare for SEBI Grade A 2026

The decisive SEBI Grade A strategy is to build securities market depth from the outset, because it is weighted in Phase I Paper 1, dominates the stream papers in both phases, and drives the interview.

Learn the securities market properly

SEBI’s awareness section is not general current affairs — it is the securities market. SEBI Act, SCRA, primary and secondary markets, intermediaries, mutual funds and recent circulars. Read SEBI’s own website and annual report.

Treat Paper 2 as the core in both phases

Stream-specific Paper 2 appears in Phase I and again at greater depth in Phase II. For the General stream that means commerce, accountancy, management, finance, costing, Companies Act and economics — a broad load that needs early planning.

Focus your merit effort on Phase II

Phase I is qualifying only. The final merit comes from Phase II and the interview, so once you are confident of clearing Phase I, shift effort to the deeper Phase II stream paper and the descriptive English paper.

Practise descriptive writing on market topics

Phase II Paper 1 is fully descriptive in 60 minutes — essay, precis and comprehension, usually on financial market and regulatory themes. Write timed answers weekly rather than only reading.

Watch the tight paper timings

Paper 2 gives just 40 minutes for 100 marks in both phases. That is a demanding pace for subject questions, so practise the stream paper under exactly that constraint.

Track SEBI circulars before the interview

The interview probes securities market developments substantively. Following SEBI board meeting outcomes, consultation papers and major enforcement actions for several months beforehand is genuinely necessary.
