What is RPF SI?

RPF Sub-Inspector recruitment fills supervisory posts in the Railway Protection Force and Railway Protection Special Force. A Sub-Inspector leads a section of the force, supervises Constables and Head Constables, handles investigation of offences under the Railways Act, and is responsible for security operations at stations, yards and on trains.

It is the officer-entry route into the force and requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Selection runs through a single computer-based test, followed by a Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Measurement Test, document verification and a medical examination — with only the CBT carrying merit marks.

Full Form of RPF SI

The full form of RPF SI is Railway Protection Force Sub-Inspector. The Sub-Inspector rank sits directly above Assistant Sub-Inspector and Head Constable in the force hierarchy, and is the entry-level supervisory rank for direct recruits.

How to Prepare for RPF SI 2026

The decisive RPF SI strategy is to build graduate-level General Awareness depth, which carries 50 of the 120 marks, while meeting the physical standards that eliminate a substantial share of written-qualified candidates.

Treat General Awareness as the primary subject

At 50 marks, General Awareness carries more weight than either other section and rewards recall rather than calculation. Build it daily over months — it is the section that most reliably separates selected candidates.

Prepare at graduate difficulty, not Class 10

The RPF SI paper is pitched above the Constable paper. Candidates preparing from Constable-level material consistently underestimate the depth expected in polity, economy and science.

Train for the PET early

Men must run 1,600 metres in 6 minutes 30 seconds and clear a 12-foot long jump and 3-foot-9-inch high jump. The jumps need technique practice, not just fitness — begin well before the CBT result.

Verify your physical measurements before applying

Check height and chest against the standards, and confirm whether you qualify for the relaxed heights available to Garhwalis, Gorkhas, Marathas, Dogras, Kumaonese and North-Eastern candidates.

Cover Indian Railways general knowledge

RPF papers regularly include questions on railway history, zones and organisational structure — a small, finite topic that many candidates skip entirely and a cheap source of marks.

Practise full mocks in 90 minutes

One hundred and twenty questions in 90 minutes demands a steady pace. Weekly full-length mocks under strict timing build it, and analysing every mistake afterwards is where the marks come from.
